Why does this happen?

Today we arrive for a meeting with a potential funder we’ve been talking to since last October. Before we enter the lobby I get a return call from another potential funder that I’ve been hounding for three days, why does this always happen? I pick up the call, did I say this funder is three times bigger than the funder we’re meeting with, and we talk.

Now most times the funder says “send me your information and I’ll review it” but not today, today she wants to talk. So, I talk to her as I watch the seconds tic by, she’s listening asking followup questions, everything you want except… just not right now.

Finally she ends the call with “send me your information and I’ll review it” and I sprint into the lobby but by now everyone is gone, now what? I didn't setup the meeting, so I don’t know the client’s name. Note to self, always find out the client’s name before the meeting. So, I did the only thing I could do. Gain my composure and confidently walk up to the receptionist and say “Bruce Harper, here for a meeting,” you know that didn’t work. Finally, I pull out my phone and call my partner, too easy, they came down and got me for what turned into a great meeting in addition to a great phone call. Great.
